Name:
Dave

Age:
36 - Yes I really am that old but I’m young at heart.. really.. honest. (had to ask my GF my age... She laughed)

Character Information:
Tass - Warlock
Affliction  - 56/0/15
Destruction - 3/14/54

450 Enchanting
450 Tailoring

Give us some information on your spec(s) and why you chose it/them:
I have played Tass since release, some years ago now. I leveled as Affliction and just love it. Keeping Dots and debuffs up and still enabling me some movement without constantly having to stab shadow-bolt every CD is great. Affliction is akin to a freight train, slow to start but impossible to stop once its going.
Some time ago I took Destruction as my secondary spec. This is mainly for fights that require burst DPS such as Saurfang or Putricide.
As a result, I tend to switch back and forth to each spec when raiding, based on the encounter.
I think a couple of talent points could be re-spent elsewhere and a gem change to optimise my gear further but I’m quite happy with Tass. I also have some higher level gear but that breaks my T10 bonus and that's just too good to pass up.

Notable Alts:
[Deathknight] - Saltster - Blood Tank/Unholy DPS 80
[Shaman] - Jak - Resto/Enhanced 80
[Rogue] - Jaq - Combat 80
All are ICC geared.

What are your current/past guilds and the reasons you left them?
My current guild is Vita Luna. Due to some significant changes to the guild it is no longer a suitable guild for me. They have decided to just use a core 10 man team with little leeway for change and have dropped all 25 man content. A number of people in the guild have already left (on good terms) because of these changes. As I’m not one of the core team, Tass is completely wasted being here which is why I’m looking to leave.

Previous Guilds:
This character was born on April 2nd 2005 so I cant remember much of the old guilds but I’ll note the recent ones.
Hug Me Harder - Left as it disbanded
Minions of Ensslin - Left as it disbanded
Devils Own Advocates - The GM left over a guild disagreement. Subsequently the guild disbanded
Runs With Scissors - Left as it disbanded
Unjust - Left as it disbanded

Why are you interested in joining Awesome Grats?
I want to join a raiding guild that does good progression. My GF and I have been looking for an appropriate guild for a while, Awesome Grats looks to be that guild. A good guild with good players ticks all the boxes for me. I’ve know Broseph for a while and he also recommended your guild as “Awesome” so how could I refuse.

Raiding experience (this can be any and all raiding experience you've had from release up to present):
I have played WoW since Beta and have raided all the original content and TBC. Recent content I have raided includes Naxx10/25, OS10/25, Maly10/25, Ulduar10/25, Toc10/25, ICC10 (11 of 12 downed), ICC25 (10 of 12 downed)
This could be an exhaustive list but only the last few really count.

Which days are you usually available to raid?
I work week days so can log-on from 6.30pm server time with no finish time.
Anytime on a Saturday with no finish time.
From 6.30pm server time on a Sunday with no finish time.
TBH, as long as I know whats happening I can arrange to be available.

Do you use an authenticator with your battle.net account? (If not, say why)
Yes, I work with computer security so am very aware of the implications. Should be mandatory imo.

Other info about yourself:
I work as a Citrix specialist for a local government doing developmental work within a Mircosoft/Citrix environment. I have a GF who has also applied.

I feel that people should treat me in the same way I treat them. Treat people well and I expect the same courtesy back. This includes being prepared for raids, I always have a stock of food and flasks with me when going to raids. I see no reason why everyone else shouldn't be the same.

I enjoy playing WoW and have played it since its birth. I have a good understanding of most character classes. I spend a lot of my time with my GF who also plays WoW. I love dining out and Sunshine...

Those are the armory links of my four level 80s so you can see if you would prefer one of my other toons instead of Tass.

Thank you for the time taken to read my application. I await your reply.

Regards, Dave.

I have had experience of Marrow, Dark Whisper, Lootship, Rotface and Fester 10HC modes but have had success with Lootship only. This was probably due to them being 25man HC pugs... (Scared)

It is a quite mature guild with regard to ages; over 25's easily outnumber under 25's Wink

It was OK, good soundtrack but the ending was a bit weak IMO.

PS Who does Tasha really like the most? Wink

I see you took 3/3 suppression on both specs while having 357 hit rating. It can be a valid choice in some circumstances, can you explain what your reason was?

You mentioned you'd change some gems around. Anything in particular you'd like to change?

Is there any other small detail you'd change about your gear or spec if you'd get a proper raiding slot in a raiding guild?

Edit: Sorry, added some questions. Don't be alarmed by these, I didn't see anything weird or out of the ordinary. I just want to find out a little more about you and your character Smiley.

I apologise if I have misunderstood but the spell hit cap is 446.  With 3 points in suppression that drops the cap to 368. This would mean I am actually under the cap by 11 points.

I got this information from http://www.wowwiki.com/Spell_hit

Could you point out where I got this wrong?

This is semantics anyhow as I have now changed from a staff to a MH/OH combo. This has put me well over the hit cap to 463 which means I can remove all my talent points from suppression reducing my hit back down to 357.

This again is under hit cap but only by 11 according to the above website. I may have misunderstood the details supplied on this site and would appreciate if you could point out my error.

I was using a +10 all stats gem which I have already replaced. Although this is fine to use, it is hardly efficient hence why I have already replaced it. As for my kit, an upgraded MH/OH would be nice as well as full Sanctified but I simply haven't had the luck yet. As it stands, however, I am happy with my kit.

446 if you have no talents in it and are in a raid without certain classes, yes. A couple of classes also bring a 3% hit buff to raids though.

As an elemental shaman, for example, I only need 289 hit rating for the cap. As they gave most classes a talent for 3% and assuming optimal raid setup, I assume 289 talented/buffed is true for most caster classes.

You are right of course, the spell hit cap is 446.

However, if your raid has a shadow priest (with Misery) or a balance druid (with Improved Faerie Fire, they already increase spell hit by 3%, so you only need 368. So if you're mostly running 10-mans, I can understand that these classes aren't always there, and then it's understandable you're going for the full 17%.

In Awesome Grats however, it's very rare to ever have a raid without either.

As for gems, certainly for Destruction, and for Affliction as well I hear are there a few rules of thumb.

- Blue slots: fill 2 with Purified Dreadstone to fulfill the requirement for Chaotic Skyflare Diamond. After that it's only worth it if the socket bonus is +6 or more spellpower (+7 or more spellpower for destruction). Now, you have quite a few Purifieds in your set in slots with +5. But obviously I'm not going to make a huge fuss over +1 spellpower, at least you skipped the +4 spirit bonus on your wrists, which is a good sign anyway Smiley.

If the socket bonus isn't good enough, then go for Runed Cardinal Ruby.

- Yellow slots: Reckless Ametrine, unless you're under the hit cap then go for Veiled Ametrine. They should be roughly equivalent to Runeds for Affliction (for Destruction it's only worth it if the socket bonus is +5 SP or higher). Now I see you got a few pure haste gems, again the difference would be minimal, but you would be better off getting orange gems instead.

- Red slots: Runed Cardinal Rubies. Nothing to remark there.

Anyway, all very minor points, but I had to ask something Wink.

I'm afraid we're not in sufficient need of warlocks to take your application further at this time. Good luck in game, and I hope at least we've been able to provide a small bit of useful information for you.
